The Lightning Bug Tying Video | Print |

This is a great pattern from North America for fishing heavy tail water or in floods.

It also has its uses as a pin fry imitation on both rivers and stillwaters.

 The Lightning Bug

Materials:

Hook: Kamasan B400 or 175 or similar in sizes 12 through to 8's

Silk: Black 8/0

Bead: In proportion to the hook. I have used a 3mm silver tungsten bead for a size 10 hook.

Tail: Pheasant tail fibres

Rib: silver wire

Body: Blue Krystal mirror flash wrapped as a body.

Legs/hackle: Black hen tied flat over the thorax

Thorax: Peacock herl

Shell back: 4 strands of the body material tied over.
