Fly Tying Program Jan 2007 to February 2007


Monday 8th January 2007,

Olive Buzzer

Materials :

Hook:   B400 or B175 size 14
Olive tying silk
Clear flexi floss or similar product.
Stripped peacock quill
Hard as nails varnish or similar.



Usk Grub

Materials:

Hook:  Single Double or treble of your choice from size 12 to 6.
Tag:  Silver oval Fine tinsel
Tail:     Golden Pheasant flank feather (Rudy brown).
Rib:    As Tag
Body: In two halves. Rear Amber orange seals fur Front Black seals fur.
Mid body hackles: Orange and white cock.
Collar Hackle:   Furnace Cock Hackle
Wings:  Pair of jungle cock feathers.
Head: As tying silk i.e. Black

Yellow May Dun (Mark Roberts)

Materials

Hook:   Size 14 down eyed dry fly
Silk:   Yellow
Tail:   Sunburst cock hackle fibres
Body:  Bright yellow dubbing
Wings:  Dyed yellow mallard flank feather.
Hackle:  Dyed sunburst cock hackle as tail.


Post Wing Tube

Materials

1” tube of choice.
Silk:  Red 8/0
Tag:   Fine oval Gold tinsel
Rib:  As tag
Body:   Black silk floss.
Wing:   Orange artic fox under pearl strands of gliss and glow under yellow artic fox under black artic fox.
Throat hackle:   Guinea fowl dyed orange.
Cheeks:  Jungle cock (optional)

CDC Loop Wing Hoppers (Claret).

Hook:  Size 12 or 10 B400
Silk:   Claret or Red 8/0
Rib:  Fine red holographic tinsel.
Body:  Claret seals fur.
Wing Buds:  Natural CDC feathers (at least 5)
Legs:  Knotted pheasant tail fibres
Hackle: Red game cock hackle.
Head:  As Silk.



Snatcher.

Hook:  Gold B100 size 10
Silk:   Red
Rib:  Gold wire
Body:  Black silk floss
Body Hackle:   Palmered red game cock hackle.
Cheeks:  Jungle cock.

The Grey Wulff

Hook:  Size 12 or 10 Dry fly (B400)
Silk:   Black 8/0
Tail:   As wing
Body:  Grey dubbing
Wing:  Calf Tail or calf body hair coloured white.
Hackle:  Red game saddle or Cock hackle.


Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear

Hook:  Size 14 dry (B400)
Silk:  Yellow or light Olive
Rib:  Fine gold oval or wire
Tail:  As Hackle
Hackle:  Dark blue dun or Red Game cock hackle.
Wings:  Paired mallard slips.
Head:  As silk.

Materials

Strong 25lb nylon
Treble hook (for a tube fly) size 12 or 10
Single long shank hook size 8 or 6 depending on the treble.
Gold Mylar tinsel.
Gold or silver Krystal Hair.#
Deer Hair for spinning.
Black 6/0 tying silk.

Butt:  Yellow silk floss
Rib:  As tag
Body:  Black Silk floss
Hackle:  Blue cock hackle
Wing:  Brown squirrel Hair or fine brown bucktail hair.

Silk:  Red 8/0 or 6/0
Tail: Fibres from a bronze mallard feather
Rib:  Gold fine oval
Body:  Claret seals fur or similar.
Wing: Bronze mallard folded
Throat:  As wing


 Pot Bellied Pig Tube

Materials

15mm brass bottle tube
Silk: yellow and black 8/0
Tail:  Boar hair dyed orange
Tag:  fine oval tinsel
Tail Hackle:  Golden pheasant breast feather
Body: In two halves. Rear yellow seals fur. Front black seals fur.
Centre Hackle:  Orange cock hackle with two strands of pearl crystal hair.
Collar Hackle:  Badger cock hackle.
Cheeks: Jungle cock.
Head: Black.
