Here are the video tying instuctions and materials lists for the flies tied during the Beginners tying class at Ponthir Village Hall this tying season. Week One:

The Black Spider

Hook: Any down eyed wet fly hook size 16 to 12 ( Kamasan B175)

Silk: Black 8/0

Body: as silk

Hackle: Black hen or cock hackle wound as a collar.

Head: Black

Week Two:

The Black and Peacock Spider

  

Hook: Any down eyed wet fly hook size 16 to 12 (Kamasan B175)

Silk: Black 8/0

Body: Peacock herl

Hackle: Black hen or cock hackle wound as a collar.

Head: Black

 The Black Pennell 

  

Hook: Any down eyed wet fly hook size 16 to 10 for trout (kamasan B175)

Silk: Black 8/0

Tails: strands of Golden Pheasant Tippets

Rib: Fine silver oval tinsel

Body: as silk or black floss

Hackle: Black cock hackle

Head: Black

 

Week Four

  

Gold Head Gold Ribbed Hares Ear

Hook: B175 or B400 in sizes from 18 to 12

Silk: Olive or colour of choice 8/0

Head: Gold bead either 2mm to 5 mm depending on size of hook

Tail: Guard hairs from an Hares Mask

Rib: Gold wire or gold oval tinsel

Body: Dubbed hares ear fur.

Dressing same as above but a different dubbing technique

  

Gold Head Pheasanttail Nymph

Hook: B175 or B400 in size to suit (18 to 12's)

Head: Gold Bead 2mm to 5mm to suit hook

Silk: Colour to suit 8/0

Tail: Pheasant tail fibres

Rib: Copper wire

Body: Wrapped pheasant tail fibres

Thorax: Dubbed hares ear fur

Week Five

 The Concoction

Hook:  B400 size 10

Silk: Black

Body: seals fur in olive and red

Body Hackle:  Red GameWing: Rolled hen pheasant tail.

Hackle: Red Game tied as a beard or false hackle.  

The Competetion Damsel Nymph

Hook: B400 size 10

Silk: Olive

Tails: Olive Cock hackle fibres

Rib: Gold oval Fine

Body: olive seals fur or similar

Wing case: Pheasant Tail Fibres

Legs:  Partridge neck feather dyed Olive

Head: Black 

The Damsel Nymph

Hook: B175 or B400 size 10

Silk: Olive 8/0

Tail: Olive Dyed marabou

Rib: Gold wire

Body: Marabou plumes twisted and wound on

Eyes: Red glass beads on nylon.

Thorax cover: Cock pheasant tail fibres

Thorax: Dark olive seals fur

Head: Olive silk.

 

The Hair Winged Butcher

 

Hook: B200 size 8

Silk: Black 8/0

Tail: Fibres from a webby cock hackle feather coloured red

Rib: Silver Oval

Body: Silver mylar tinsel

Wing: Black squirrel hair

Beard: As tail

Head: Black

 

The Silver Stoats Tail

  

 

Hook: B200 size 8

Silk: Black8/0

Tag: Silver oval tinsel

Tail: Golden Pheasant Crest feather

Rib: As tag

Body: Silver mylar tinsel

Wing: Black squirrel hair

Beard: Black cock hackle fibres

Head: Black

Week Seven

The Invicta.

  

Hook: Size 10 B400

Silk: Black

Tail: Golden Pheasant crest feather

Rib: Fine Gold oval

Body:  Dirty Yellow seals fur dubbing

Body hackle: Red Game Cock

Wing: Rolled Hen Pheasant tail feather

Beard: Blue Jay.  

The Teal Blue and Silver

Hook:  Size to suit species this one is a B175 size 10(trout and Sewin)

Silk: Black 8/0

Tail: Golden Pheasant Tippets

Rib: Oval tinsel

Body: Silver Mylar

Collar hackle: Blue cock doubled and swept down.

Wing: Rolled teal feather

Head: Black

The Mallard and Claret

  

Hook: B175 size 10

Silk: Black 8/0

Tail: Golden Pheasant Tippets

Rib: Gold oval

Body: Dubbed claret seals fur

Collar Hackle: Dyed claret cock hackle doubled and swept down.

Wing: Bronze mallard paired slips.

 

Week Eight

The Elk Hair Caddis

 

Hook: Fine wire Kamasan B405 Size to suit hatch (12 to 18)

Silk: Tan coloured 8/0

Rib: Fine gold wire

Body: Hares ear or colour of dubbing to suit hatch

Hackle: Palmered red game or med to dark Brown cock or saddle hackle

Wing: Elk hair

 

 

The Elk Hair Emerger

  

Hook: Kamasan B100 fine wire Grub hook size to suit hatch (16 to 10)

Silk: Tan 8/0

Body: Hares Ear

Wing: Elk hair

 

 

The Balloon Caddis

 

Hook: Fine wire Kamasan B405 size to suit hatch (18 to 12)

Silk: 8/0 Tan

Body: Hares ear

Wing: Elk hair

Head: 2mm closed cell foam.

Ducks Dun

  

Materials:

Hook: TMC 103BL, size 13 – 19 or any down eyed dry hook
Thread: Brown
Tail: Grizzly Cock hackle fibres
Body: Fine Olive Dubbing
Wing: Bunch of CDC
Hackle: Dun Cock

 

The Dark Olive Wet Fly

  

Materials:

Hook: Any wet fly hook size 14 or 16 (Kamasan B400 or B175)

Silk: Olive 70 denier UTC

Tails: Dark Olive Cock hackle

Body: Stripped peacock quill fibre

Hackle: As tail but tied in as beard

Wing: Paired Mallard slips.

I have only started tying in the last few months and the videos here are excellent. They are very clear with good instructions all the way. I have tied a few of them and it is made very easy to follow.
