Fishing Report Ty Mawr 30th April 2006 | Print |
Not many of you have contacted me since the last report so I am only able to pass on some information that I have found out myself.

the water in the system continues to drop and the cold winds have returned. We really need another flood to clear out the bottom before the algea blooms (which I believe are due to nitrates being washed into the river) get a hold.

Toms steps are brilliant and are as solid as a rock.

Whats as important is that they blend in well with the environment and look pleasant.

Bank holiday Monday found Mark , Brian, Parf and new member Graham on the water. Those trying for trout on the dry fly found it hard with a strong cold down stream wind. The grannom were still coming off but again the wind reduced the hatch considerably.

Also hatching were a few olives and when the wind dropped the trout switched on to them very quickly.

Graham was fishing down stream wet due to the wind and successfully landed 4 the best estimated at 1lb. He explained that his successful pattern was a black and peacock spider.

Alun Rees came down later in the afternoon to practice with his new double hander and succesfully landed his first Usk salmon!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Well almost it was a beautiful smolt as you can see below.

Don't worry Alun they will get bigger and better as the season progresses.

Has anyone seen a hatch of March Browns yet?  I have seen not one. I believe that the reports from the river of great hatches which I reported in the forum may well be hatches of grannom.

I do hope and pray that one day we will see and witness the return of this very important and majical fly in the future.

Please be on the look out for poachers/unauthorized visitors on our beats. there have been two instances both at Maes-Y-Bellan where people have been found spinning for salmon which is not only unlawful at this time of year but is on your fishing.

Please help Ken and challenge anyone politely and if they are not permitted to be there then get them to move.

You will have seen the notices that have been placed at Ty Mawr warning of no dogs and that you will be challenged for your licence by the new owner or there staff. Make sure that you co-operate as we will be judged this year on how we conduct our selves which will effect our future on this water.

Tight lines and let me know what happeneing and how it's fishing.
