The prolonged rains have served the river well cleaning away much of the algae that coated the bottom of the river. The River was some 4 feet above normal levels and this rise coinsided with the spring tides so I am sure that salmon are in the river. I would suggest fishing for them slow and deep with largish tube or waddington type flies. you will have to go a long way to beat a Tosh or Willie Gun at this time of year. The trout fishing appears to be alittle slow at present with a few hatches of dark olive appearing each day. There are also stone flies and Alders making an appearance with the occasional Iron Blue. I also saw that there were a number of large dark olive spinner showing. You will need a pheasant tail dry fly for this spinner and the trout seem to love them. Be patient as the month progresses there will be more fish showing on top and as it gets warmer then the evenings may produce the fish, just do not forget your spinner patterns. Do not forget the clean up this Sunday at Llan Farm meeting at the lower gate at 10am. If you have had success then let me know through the forum. |
